Singaporeans seem to have been struck down by the football fever in recent weeks. but is it really the passion for the game or just the urge to gamble? Most of my friends who are suppose to be mugging for the mid-yrs now seem to do more calculations on the betting odds than studying the mathematical formulas. I'm sure that they are not genuine enthusiasts of the "Beautiful Game". when i go to the coffee shops, the old uncles there watch the game for different reasons, and cheer for different reasons. when they want more goals, the entertainment is secondary, the bets are of prime concern.

i am saddened by all these insults to the "Beautiful Game". People would rather give themselves overdoses of adrenaline shots from their bets than to follow the game like a true football fan who savours every moment of action on the pitch. i used to think that football was a game that everyone could connect to, something everyone would love, perhaps i was wrong....

nevertheless, i am defintely sure of one thing- the game did not corrupt people, for it is people would corrupted the game.
